How To Update Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 with Gingerbread 2.3.5 Firmware

It’s just barely just few days of the launch of an all new revolutionary smart phone Samsung Galaxy Y which might not be as powerful as the mightiest Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 smart phone but still it has got an update of Gingerbread 2.3.5. So, coming again with the FIRST @ Android Advices, we will see in the due course of this article on how you can easily apply this latest update of Gingerbread 2.3.5 which is dubbed as XXKI6. Please note that this firmware version is only compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Y device which has the model number as S5360. The best part of this update is that anyone with this unlocked Samsung Galaxy Y S 5360 phone can proceed and follow the instructions to apply this update.
Please note that this version of update is not yet officially available in the KIES and also we have no ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) of the same via KIES, since it’s a beta release we also don’t have the exact change log to mention the changes. The only thing we would like to add that some of the bugs are solved which are mentioned below. Please note that for your simplicity we have broken this article into different parts wherein in this page you will see the list of enhancements, in the next page we will check out the list of pre requisites which you need to follow before applying this update manually so as to ensure that no data is being lost and also you can finish the updating easily and then last but not the least we will see in the 3rd page on what is the procedure to apply the update of Gingerbread 2.3.5.

Rooting Information:
If you just thought that following this procedure will be rooting the phone then it’s not the case, as firmware update and rooting are both different things. Applying this update of Gingerbread 2.3.5 will no way root the phone. Also, we will soon see on Android Advices on how you can root this version of firmware. Just in case if you managed to root your current stock version then after applying this update, the root access will be revoked and you will have to root the phone once again 

Pre Requisites:
  • In the process of the firmware update, all the data which is stored in the phone will get erased. So, its recommended to ensure that the data is backed up so that the same can be restored after the firmware update. To keep it simple, we have mentioned some of the tips along with the links which will help you to backup and restore the below mentioned data. The data which needs to be backed up includes text messages, Contacts, Songs, Videos, Files and also not to forget the APN Settings as well as the MMS Settings.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
  • After backing up the data, you will now have to proceed to charge your phone to the minimum of 90% just to ensure that the phone is not turned Off in the process of firmware update.
  • The computer which you will be using for the update should be minimum having the Windows XP / Vista / 7 Operating system and as of now due to technical limitations the Odin flash tool doesn’t support the Mac / Apple systems. Additionally, ensure that the USB ports are a minimum of USB 2.0 capable or else you will get the USB Port error which can only by overcome either by using different PC with the above capabilities or by upgrading the PC with the minimum of USB 2.0.
Don’t proceed to updating the phone before entering into the download mode. If you proceed without entering into the download mode then there is a high probability that you may end up bricking up the phone for which we should not be held responsible for and before proceeding close the softwares like KIES / Antivirus Suites / Firewall tools completely so as to avoid from firmware update failure message. Also, last but not the least you will also require the USB ports with full read / write access so that the firmware update process is not hampered                                                                                               Procedure to update Galaxy Y S 5630 with Gingerbread 2.3.5 Firmware:
  • First up you need to download Gingerbread 2.3.5 Package for Galaxy Y S5360 from here to your computer and after this you will have to extract the same to a folder in your desktop. Please note that in the due course of extraction of files, it may prompt you to enter the password. Enter the password as “androidadvices.com” after which the files will b extracted as shown in the below screenshot.

  • So, once you match with the screen capture which is mentioned above at your end, you can now proceed to turn Off the phone so that you can then enter into the download mode. The download mode can be entered by pressing  down on Volume Down Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button.                             
  • Now, after this as soon as you enter the download mode you will now have to open the “Odin” executable file from the extracted files and then you need to connect the phone to the computer using the USB cable which is supplied to at the time of purchase.

    • After you connect the phone with the computer while the Odin is opened in the computer you will now see that the ID : COM section will turn yellow which will mean the all the drivers have been installed successfully.  It will take just around 4 – 5 minutes for the ID : COM section to turn yellow.

    • Now, after this you will have to select the corresponding files in the Odin for the respective options.

    • After you select all the files as mentioned in the above shown manner, double check the same and then simply click on the “Start” tab in the Odin to start the process of firmware update. Please note that at this point of time you don’t interrupt the process of firmware update or else there will be a high probability that you may end up bricking up the phone.

    • Now, after the firmware update gets done successfully, you will see that the phone will be restarted. Once the phone gets restarted, you will be asked to enter the Language Preference followed by the Google account credentials. So, once you are done with this you will see the home screen in your phone which will mean that the firmware has been successfully updated.
    • Just in case to know whether the firmware has been successfully updated or not, you will need to check the same from the path of “Applications > Settings > About Phone” where you will find the firmware version mentioned as XXKI6 2.3.5 Gingerbread version.
      So now after successful firmware updation, you will now have to turn Off the phone so that you can enter into the recovery mode. The recovery mode can be entered by pressing  Volume UP on Volume Down Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button.                         

      • After entering the recovery mode, you will have to choose the options Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition and then reboot your device by selecting reboot system now option. Please note that you will have to ensure that you don’t select any other options or else there is a high probability that you may end up bricking up the phone. Please note that its utmost important to follow this step or else you will have to face force close errors.
      Note: In the process of the firmware update, there will be some data which will be erased which you need to restore the same by following the tips which were mentioned in the pre requisite instructions in the last page. Just in case if you are unable to access the INTERNET / 3G in your phone then you need to configure the APN Settings manually in the path which you have noted down earlier in the path Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names. Just in case if you forgot to backup then you will have to contact your service provider so that the settings can be configured manually.
