How to Update Sprint Nexus S 4G with 2.3.9 MIUI ICS 4.0.3 Custom ROM Firmware


If you are a Sprint Nexus S 4G user and though that it was just 2.3.6 or 2.3.7 a maximum version in Gingerbread then you have got it wrong as in the due course of this article, we will talk about the latest custom Rom which is visually damn beautiful which we will also check out in the pictures below. The specialty doesn’t stop there either as this custom ROM which is dubbed as MIUI comes with many features which ropes in the goodness of Gingerbread 2.3.9.  Please note that this is not an Official version as of now released by Sprint but this really indeed is the one which deserves a try if you want to install the custom ROMs. For full details on the Change Log and complete feature list, you can refer to the MIUI’s Official Change Log Page.
Note: In the process of applying this firmware, the device needs to be rooted and once the device is rooted the warranty will get void. Only way with which you can revoke the lost warranty is by re applying the official firmware update again for which we will try to come up with the article.

Pre Requisites:
  • Data like SMS, Contacts, APN Settings and Call Log is very important and in the process of firmware update, the data may get corrupted or may even et erased. So it’s highly important that you backup all the data using the below mentioned data
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
  • Minimum battery left in the device should be 60% so as to avoid device from getting turned Off in the middle of firmware update. Also, you need to ensure that all the antivirus suites in your phone and PC are completely disabled.
  • Enable the USB debugging in your Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 phone from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The USB Debugging option should be ticked as shown in the below screen capture. (Phone should be disconnected from computer while enabling the USB Debugging Mode).

  • Sprint Nexus S 4G needs to be rooted before proceeding to follow the tutorial and also you need to ensure that you have installed the Clock Work Mod recovery is installed in your phone from the corresponding links.Procedure to Update Gingerbread 2.3.9 MIUI Custom ROM in Nexus S 4G:
    • Download the MIUI Firmware Package from here to your computer. Connect your phone to the computer and copy this downloaded Zip file in your phone, not into any of the sub folders.
    • Remove the connected USB cable and turn off the device so as to boot the device in the recovery mode. The recovery mode in the Nexus S 4G can be entered by Pressing the Volume down button and at the same time you need to press the power button to boot the device in the recovery mode.
    • Now, select Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition and then reboot your device by selecting reboot system now with the help of Volume rocker keys. Also, you need to clear the “Wipe Dalvik Cache” from the Advanced Option. With the help of Volume rocker keys, select “++++ Go Back ++++” for going to the main home screen of recovery mode.
    • Select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” > and select the “MIUI Firmware Zip package”. Once the zip file is updated successfully, you now need to select “reboot system now” option by selecting “++++ Go Back ++++”.
    Note: Just in case if there are any issues, then you will have to again re apply the firmware by following the steps again.
