How to Update HTC Desire with Runnymede AIO v6.1.1 Special Edition Custom ROM

For all those who have got HTC Desire can now update with yet another custom ROM firmware which is dubbed as Runnymede AIO v6.1.1 Special Edition which comes with the INT2SD support. Please note that this is not an official firmware released by HTC and also we have no clue on by when this firmware will be rolling out the update officially. Though this one is in the beta stages, there are not many bugs in this firmware. Just in case if you come across with any errors / bugs, then do let us know in the comments section below.

In the process of this article, we will not only be checking on what are the features, screen captures on how this custom firmware looks like but also we will be checking out the detailed list of pre requisites followed by the tutorial on how to apply this update in your HTC Desire.

Quick Pre Requisites:
  • With the help of below mentioned steps, you can easily backup / restore the data present in your phone. This step is very important as once you root the device, you will need to clear the cache data which in turn will delete the user data. You can restore the lost data with the help of below mentioned steps.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
  • Minimum charge left in the phone should be 80% so as to ensure that the phone doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update. (If you don’t follow this step then the chances are more that your phone may get DEAD for which we should not be responsible).
  • Disable all the security suites installed in your computer and uninstall all antivirus tools in your computer so as to ensure that the firmware update is not interrupted in the middle of the process.
  • Enable the USB debugging in your phone from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The USB Debugging option should be ticked. USB Debugging Mode can only be enabled once you disconnect the phone from computer. USB Debugging should be ticked.

  • You need to ensure that in your device, the Cyanogen Mod 7 or Stock HBoot is present and also along with this you will need to have a free space of 1.5GB in your SD Card with ext4 partition. If it’s not partitioned then with the help of mentioned guide in the link, you can do the same.
You also need to ensure that your device has attained S-Off which you can by following the mentioned instructions in the link.


Procedure to Update HTC Desire with Runnymede AIO v6.1.1 Special Edition Custom ROM:
  • Download the Runnymede AIO v6.1.1 Special Edition Custom ROM from here to your computer and connect your phone to the computer with the help of USB cable and place the zip file in your phone’s SD Card. Ensure that you are not placing the file deep into the device or else it will not get detected in the recovery mode.
  • Now, remove the connected USB cable and turn Off the device so that it can then be entered into the recovery mode / boot loader mode.
  • The Boot loader mode in HTC Desire can be entered by pressing Volume UP Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button. Please note that just in case if the device boots up in the normal mode, you need to again try entering into the boot loader mode.

  • Once the device is entered in the boot loader mode, you need to select the option “Recovery” to enter the device in the recovery mode. Now, in the recovery mode, you need to select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” and then choose the Runnymede AIO v6.1.1 Special Edition Custom ROM Zip file which you have placed in your phone.
  • Once you select the file, it may take up to 5 minutes to apply this update in your phone. As soon as the firmware is applied successfully, either the phone will be rebooted automatically or will again land up in the recovery mode screen.
  • If the device enters in the recovery mode screen, you need to now select the option of “++++ Go Back ++++” and choose the option of “reboot system now”. As soon as the phone is rebooted, you are on the latest ICS Android 4.0.3 Firmware version.
Tip: Just in case if due to some reasons if the rooting process gets failed or interrupted, then you need to apply the update again by following the steps again from the start. Don’t forget to restore the backup which you have taken in the initial steps.
