Update Nexus S with Kindle HD’s Default Firmware – Tutorial


Ever got seduced with the fluidness of Amazon’s Kindle Fire interface? Then here’s a guide which will empower you to port the Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD firmware and interface to the Galaxy Nexus S smartphone. Though Nexus Ssmartphone users didn’t get any fair chance to experience the magic of Jellybean 4.2 firmware but we will continue to strive our level best to come out with more guides. Please note that the OS won’t have any change apart from the same Android but yes, you will be able to enjoy all the goodness of apps and other interface love of Kindle on your Nexus S device. Please be informed that this is not the Official firmware update released by Samsung or Google but is a custom ROM firmware.
Creating a backup of all your data with the help of simple steps is an excellent way and to do that we have summed up super simple steps for you. Please note that you should not backup the data with the help of any PC Suites as you may face difficulties in restoring the same.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
No doubt that for applying this you will have to root your Nexus S smartphone. So, to check on whether your device is rooted or not, download the “Root checker” app from the PLAY Store and check the same. So, once your device is rooted, download the “ROM Manager” app in your Nexus S smartphone.

Procedure to Update Nexus S with Kindle Fire Firmware:
  • Download the Nexus S Kindle Fire Package from here to your computer. Once downloaded, connect your device to the computer with the help of original USB cable and the place the zip file in your device. Ensure that you are placing the same in the main root folder and not in the sub folders.
  • Once placed, disconnect the device from computer and open the ROM Manager app from the Apps list to select “reboot into recovery mode” so that the device can be booted in the recovery mode.
  • Now In recovery mode, select “install zip from sd card” to choose the placed zip file of Kindle Fire Zip from external SD Card. Once selected, it will take around 3 -4 minutes for applying this update. As soon as the update is applied successfully, you then have to select “go back” and select “reboot system now” for rebooting the device in the normal mode.
  • So there you go, you have now successfully applied the latest update of Kindle Fire custom ROM firmware in your Nexus S device. To check on whether your device has been successfully updated or not, head over to the path of “Settings > About Phone” where you will get to see the current firmware version.
Note: Just in a rare case if the device doesn’t boot up or show the home screen then remove the battery and reinsert the same to boot the device again in the normal mode. If you get any force close errors you will have to select options Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition” in the recovery mode.
