Kobian iXA Tablet Launched in India – Price Specs & Features

Kobian, the company which is quite popular and known in the field of computer peripherals and the small hand-held devices, has launched a tablet device with the price being one of the most competitive ones and well affordable by all class of users, targeting the students with the price of Rs. 3999. With such a price, the iXA Tab of Kobian would prove a direct challenge to the Aakash tablet from Datawind.
Micromax came in with a great device, the Micromax Funbook, but now the iXA tablet would be another good entry with the specifications being pretty noticeable and the 1GHz processor but what would still make the users a bit disappointed is the screen, which is the resistive touchscreen, and this when compared to the newer version of the Ubislate and Micromax would be a slight disadvantage because the two competitors have got a capacitive touchscreen.

The inflow of new low-cost Android tablets in the Indian market has been on the rise, but there has not been any such tablet device which can be called the best, each of them having some or the other lack of features. In this case, the resistive touchscreen and the limited connectivity options would not go unnoticed.
Here are the specifications of the Kobian iXA Tab:
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system
  • 1GHz processor
  • 341gm weight
  • Resistive touchscreen, size probably 7-inch
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4GB internal storage
  • Storage expandable to 32GB with a MicroSD card
  • 0.3MP camera
  • Connectivity via Wi-Fi
The company says that the booking for the iXA tablet starts from May 23rd, 2012 and the price is going to be Rs. 3999. The basic Android interface and applications like the Email, Music Player, E-book reader would all be present and you could download any extra applications from the market, although this is not yet confirmed.
The iXA Tab allows the video and audio playing of various formats, and this includes avi, mp4, mov, 3GP apart from a few others, and the audio support includes mp3, wav, wma, aac etc. The tab has got a camera which although is of low quality, would serve some purpose like the video chatting using the programs like Skype and sometimes would help in capturing pictures. This is an advantage over many other tablet devices which do not possess a camera at all.
The launch of the Tab with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS does make people raise questions about the latest OS not being brought into it, but when you get something from a version that is quite stable and would serve the needed purpose, giving an extra load with the latest OS and needing higher internal specs would be of no use. And of course, just like any other company Kobian might have got plans for future where they might be coming in with a tablet with the latest OS and better specs, for a higher price.
The iXA Tab is quite thin and would be comfortable to hold, with the low weight of 341 gm, and it is going to come with additional accessories for people who get an option of purchasing them too, and one of the accessories include the case with the external keyboard.
Whether Kobian tried to bring in something with a better functionality or just concentrated on the pricing just like the other brands do, would be found only after the tablet is in hands and we get an experience of it. The latest trend of launching the tablet devices with the pricing as the only factor in mind, the users aren’t finding it really necessary to buy these because of the lack of actual functionality.
