SignalGen is a free app that outputs relatively low frequency signals with the use of a PC sound card. It is an entirely suitable replacement for a hardware signal generator (electronic instrument that generates repeating electronic signals) for signals of a frequency higher than about 50 KHz.

SignalGen creates any frequency between a fraction of a Hz and an upper limit determined by your sound card's capabilities, typically about 50 KHz. It works like a hardware audio generator, creating sine, triangle, square and sawtooth waves, that can be monitored in real time.

SignalGen is CareWare.

JTides is an ocean tide and current prediction program that relies on a large database of North America and worldwide locations (more than 2000).

JTides is a Java MDI (Multi-Document Interface) application that will run on virtually any computer (Windows, Linux, MacOSX).

Tiny Robots (8 centimeters long) are being developed at the University of Nebraska to provide remote controlled robot abdomen surgery.

The project's mission is to test new minimally invasive surgery techniques.
Specialized devices for illumination, biopsy, clamping and cauterizing are also planned, some of which could move around the stomach or the abdominal cavity.

Dmitry Oleynikov, director of education and training for the minimally invasive and computer-assisted surgery project asserted that: 

“This is just the start of things to come regarding robotic devices at work inside the body during surgery.”

NASA has shown its interest in the project and said it will teach astronauts to use the robots so that surgeries can be performed in space. They can also be operated from surgeons on Earth, who can control the robots themselves from other locations.
